Man Runs From Montauk To Brooklyn, NYC!

A 23 year old young man from Seaford was able to run from Montauk to Brooklyn last week for charity. Most people are happy with the accomplishment of completing a marathon once in there lives and participate in years of training to do so. Ryan Clifford was able to complete the journey, which was over 100 miles, in less than a day. This totals over 5 marathons back to back! The total distance traveled by Clifford comes out to 131 miles.

Ryan Clifford set out to travel the entire length of the land mass in under a day and was able to accomplish it. "It was kind of cool being able to do the land mass, and I think that was kind of the big drive behind this, doing all of Long Island," he said.

Ryan Clifford began his adventure on Tuesday morning just after midnight and continued almost non stop until Wednesday evening 22 hours later. The only time he stopped for essential breaks, when his support team demanded that he would stop and eat some food for additional energy.

"There were a couple points where my support group was like 'hey, we want you to run, but you need to eat food,' but it was awesome, we had people following along and joining in, it felt like Forrest Gump as it got closer to Nassau County and New York City, more people were joining in, it was crazy," he explained.

The reason for the run was to raise money for the John Theissan Children's Foundation. The initial goal he set was $5000, but in that time he has more than doubled the goal and continues to receive donations even after the event has concluded, as more people are becoming aware.

"Everything that's going on in the world right now, we wanted to be able to do something good ... and not just running to run across Long Island, you're running for charity," Ryan Clifford said. "I don't know what I'm going to do if they ask me what are you going to do after this," he added. "I'm just going to keep running for fun and exercise."

This positive news is a breath of fresh air in a time when the news is polluted with negativity. You can donate to the the cause here!

What Is The John Theissan Children's Foundation?

The foundation was founded by John Theissen, who had a brain tumor at the age of 17 and was hospitalized in a children's hospital. After his hospital stay, he wanted to create a foundation that would be able to sick and underprivileged children in any way possible. Thus, he created his foundation in 1992 out of his parents house. Since then, the foundation has donated well over one million new gifts through their holiday toy and gift drive, started a family fun center and many other programs and services.

The John Theissen foundation has been voted best charity on Long Island for 10 years in a row through Long Island Press and Bethpage Federal Credit Union’s Best of Long Island Contest. John himself is an avid runner, like Ryan Clifford. John has competed in over 14 marathons, 100’s of local level races and ultra runs including 103.5 miles in 1999 to benefit the foundation.
